How to Improve the Service Life of Hammer Head

Poor abrasion resistance, short service life and frequently replacement of hammer head, which not only waste materials, also effect the normal work Therefore, improving the service life of hammer head becomes a problem need to be solved

Hammer crusher is commonly used in these industries such as metallurgy, mining, building materials and electricity. Hammer head is one of the main wearing parts, which mainly made of high manganese steel. But its poor abrasion resistance, short service life and  frequently replacement, which not only waste materials, also effect the normal work. Therefore, improving the service life of hammer head becomes a problem need to be solved.

1. The material selection of hammer head   

(1) Manganese steel hammer head. At present most hammer head adopts high manganese steel at domestic matket, but its wear resistance is not enough, life is very short. Due to the Cr have effects of strengthening austenite, improving hardness, strength and abrasion resistance of steel, so Cr elements are added into the high manganese steel, which can make the hammer head strengthen greatly. When crushing iron ore, the service life of hammer head is 50% higher than that of common high manganese steel;

(2) Compound hammer head. The traditional high manganese steel hammer head with poor abrasion resistance, short service life and large amount of consumables. Therefore, the hammer head designed as respectively manufacturing hammer handle and hammer end. Hammer handle part is made of high manganese steel or carbon steel to make it enough toughness, and hammer head part is made of high-chromium iron. Practice shows that the service life improves more than 2 times higher than that of high manganese steel hammer head when crushing cement clinker in the cement industry. In addition, also cast white iron hammer head can be used, the test proved that the service life of hammer head can steadily reach three times than that of high manganese steel when crushing 6.5 mohs hardness albite.

     

 

2. Other factors

(1) The structure and quality of hammer head. By analyzing the breakdown of different hammer head, the reason is that there is fault inside or outside of the machine, which cause hammer head broken at the beginning of using. Therefore, during the production of the hammer head, there must be reasonable casting and heat process.

(2) The crushing parameters. The parameter will affect the life of hammer head, in which the rotor power and speed not only influence the production capacity, but also affect the shock hardening. The good hardening can prolong the service life of hammer head.

(3) The larger the crushing size and hardness, the higher the tightness, so the higher the material hardness, the higher the hardness of hammer head.

(4) The adjustment of inner clearance. The clearance between rotor and impact plate as well as grate and hammer head may cause material blockage around the safety door. If there is material stock, the hammer head cannot strike the material passing the grate, the hammer head will be damaged badly. Therefore, should adjust the clearance among these parts to make sure the proper usage scope.
